How do I start web developing?

As you are interesting in learning web development and becoming a web developer, depending on your background, you might be wondering where to start learning web development. One of the first things that I would suggest when starting out learning web development is that you have some kind of career or end goal in mind. Whatever the goal is, I think it’s important to have an understanding of WHY are you doing this. Remember, no matter how elaborate and far away the end goal may seem now, you CAN achieve it with hard work and perseverance.

As a beginner, one should know that web development has two parts, front end and back end.
  • Front end - this is what the end user sees and interacts with on the page. It’s all the design, fancy effects, layout and imagery that creates the user experience. Technologies often associated with front end web development are HTML, CSS, jQuery and Javascript.
  • Back end - this is the part that typically processes, stores and manipulates data. It is HOW the website or application works. Back end development is usually associated with server side languages such as PHP, Python and Ruby.
So you can decide on what would you like the most to work on, but whatever you choose or even if you are still undecided, I think that the best place to start is by learning some basic HTML and CSS.
